What is open-ended play?
Open-ended learning materials have multiple uses and endless possibilities. Open-ended play is free from instructions or directions; there is no wrong way to play with open-ended materials. A traditional example of an open-ended learning material would be: blocks.
What are loose parts?
Loose parts are any materials that can be easily moved, lifted, transformed, used alone and/or combined and recombined with other materials. Loose parts can be both natural and man-made, are often repurposed, and are ideal for extending play in a variety of settings. Examples of some of the loose parts that you might find in the Wonderblasters Rover include: rope, fabric, wire, hoops, tubes, boxes, sticks, blankets, feathers, buckets, baskets, tires, crates, chairs, and tape.
Why is this type of play important?
Open-ended play with loose parts supports active and prolonged engagement and gives people an opportunity to truly direct their own play and learning. It also promotes innovation and critical thinking by offering a broad range of play experiences–sensory, social, imaginative, large and small motor, constructive, individual, and cooperative.
How old do children need to be to benefit from open-ended play?
All children including infants and toddlers benefit from open-ended play. However, the Wonderblasters Mobile Play Unit is designed for children two and a half and older. (Adults too!)
What is the role of a Wonderblaster Play Coach?
